The first ever Zee Nite, a colourful dance and music extravaganza, was organised in Reunion Island and was attended by about 1200 people including local dignitaries.
A Reception was held in the evening on the occasion of the Republic Day, at Hotel Creolia, at which the Prefet, Mr. Michel Lalande, other dignitaries and members of the Reunionnaise community were present
A solemn flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Consul General's official residence on the occasion of the 63rd Indian Republic Day. On this occasion, The Consul General read out the message of the President of India to the Nation, delivered on the eve of the Republic Day, in the presence of the Indian Origin community and friends of India in Reunion.
The second Reunion Expo was organized at Saint Denis from 3 to 11 March 2012
The Indian Coast Guard Ship VIJIT visited Reunion Island from 24 to 27 March 2012 at Le Port (Port Est, Pointe des Galets) as part of a goodwill tour to the Indian Ocean Region. Vijit is the third Coast Guard ship to visit Reunion Island and was fully designed and built in India by the Goa Shipyard Limited and commissioned in December 2010. Around 410 persons including, students and teachers, visited the Ship and were taken around by the Ships crew.
A three day Colloquium on Indentured Labour, Diaspora and Indian culture in former colonies: improving and increasing cooperation with India was organized by the local unit of the Organisation for Diaspora Initiatives (ODI) from 4th to 7th April 2012 at University of Reunion. Researcher, academics and Speakers from India, South Africa and Mauritius participated. The Consul General inaugurated the Colloquium on 5th April.
The Tamil New Year Celebrations were held across the Island including by the President of the General Council on 14th April and the Regional Council celebrated the Tamil New Year on 27th April. The Consul General attended the functions and conveyed greetings on the occasion.
The Consulate, in association with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the Regional Council and the GOPIO Reunion, organized an exhibition of the paintings of Rabindranath Tagore on 27th-28th April and a Conference on Tagore on 28th April at the MOCA, a prestigious multipurpose venue.
Mr Raju and his group song a few patriotic songs which were appreciated by the audience.
Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August 2012 in Reunion Island with the hoisting of the flag by Consul General, Ms Manju Seth in the presence of a large number of people including local dignitaries, Indians, PIOs and friends of India. The National anthem was sung by local artists led by Mr. Raju and the Consul General read out the President's speech to the nation.
